Our Story

What started around a family dinner table in 2020 has grown into one of Canada’s favorite home and kitchen destinations.

Founders Mark and Sarah Thompson were renovating their first home in Mississauga when they realized how difficult it was to find quality kitchen items at fair prices. The big box stores offered limited selection. Specialty stores were overpriced. Online shopping meant dealing with US retailers, high shipping costs, and customs hassles.

“We kept asking ourselves: Why is it so hard to find a good set of pots and pans in Canada without paying a fortune?” recalls Mark. “And why do we have to wait two weeks and pay $30 in shipping for every order?”

That question became the foundation of True North Cart.

The vision was simple: Create a Canadian online store where anyone could find quality home and kitchen products, with:

Starting small: The Thompsons launched with just 50 products from their garage. Mark handled orders after his day job. Sarah managed customer emails from her phone. Their two kids “helped” pack boxes (which meant more tape than necessary).

Today: True North Cart now offers over 2,000 products, ships to every province and territory, and has helped over 50,000 Canadian families outfit their homes and kitchens. We’ve moved out of the garage into a proper 50,000 sq. ft. warehouse, but our values haven’t changed.

The name says it all: “True North” represents our Canadian identity and commitment to true, honest value. “Cart” is where your home journey begins.

Mark Thompson – Co-Founder & CEO

Mark spent 15 years in retail management before starting True North Cart. He’s the visionary who ensures we always put customers first. When not working, he’s testing new cookware in his home kitchen (much to his family’s delight).

Sarah Thompson – Co-Founder & Creative Director
